The book deals with the subject of consumer protection in India. The theme has national and international Significance. Books on this theme are few and far between. The present study is unique in that it is very comprehensive, covering all aspects of the subject. The book not only presents the plight of consumers in India but also explains what the state, consumer councils and the consumers themselves have to do to strengthen the consumer movement. The consumers in India are most unorganized, widely scattered and highly exploited. This exploitation can be ended, says the author, through collective social action, consumer consciousness and consumer unity. These are the best safeguards against consumer exploitation. The government have initiated a number of measures for the protection of consumers and it is also extending financial assistance to voluntary agencies for promoting a strong consumer protection movement in the country. Yet, consumer movement here is still in its infancy. These and such other aspects have been discussed in this work. It is perhaps, the first comprehensive work on consumer protection in India. It is hoped, that this books will be read with considerable interest, both by those in-charge of consumer organizations and the general public.
