The micro credit summit at Halifax, Canada, proves that micro finance is a world wide movement. However, cooperatives are the most successful micro finance institutions. This book highlights the development of cooperative movement in India with special reference to micro finance.

D. Joel Edwinraj, holds a degree in B.Com., M.A. and M.Phil., Cooperation from Bharathidasan University. Now he is working as Lecturer (SS) in the Department of Cooperation, T.B.M.L. College, Porayar. He organized one state level UGC seminar, and also edited a book on "New Dimension in Commerce, Banking and management". He produced ten M.Phils., from the department of cooperation.

V. Frank Ratnakumar, holds a degree in B.A., (Eco) from Madurai Kamaraj University, M.Co-op., from National Council for Rural Higher Education, New Delhi, M.Phil and Ph.D., from Bharathidasan University, Trichy. At present he is Reader in Cooperation and Vice-Principal of T.B.M.L. College, Porayar (Nagai Dist. T.N.). He has undertook a minor research project on "Cooperatives Law". sponsored by National Dairy Development Board, New Delhi.
