Crime Against Women

The book, Edited by Prof. Asha Shukla and Dr. Jaya Phookan addresses the issue of violence and crime against women, looks for reason behind these crimes and gender discrimination which exists in society. The book also deals with various discourses on crime against women and strategies to combat the problem. Violence Against Women is a violation of Human rights that manifests itself in number of ways like Murders, honour killing, rapes, dowry deaths, molestation cases, Female Foeticide, Sexual Harassment at workplace, Importation of girls/Trafficking, Kidnapping and abduction, Domestic Violence. Suicide , acid attack etc. There are many instances of crime especially against women go unreported in India. Violence and Crime Against Women is a result of traditional patriarchal structure and gender relations that assumes men to be superior to women. Although many initiatives have been taken to improve the status of women, the constitutional dream of gender equality is miles away from becoming a reality.
