It is true that Islam ameliorated the position of women in their domestic and social lives by granting them certain rights, based on divine wisdom revealed through the Qur’an and Sunnah, right after its inception, which they got, in the West, after decades-long struggle in 20th Century. Their struggle against male domnatino and discriminatory laws are still continued. in Islam, it is a fact that the religion has granted women and men equal rights in almost all matters pertaining to soical and domestic lives; and wherever it has given preference to men over women, it is a favour to women. For example, women cannot take part in jihad because Haji is said to be Jihad for them. However, due to social rigours, Muslim women almost allover the world, especially in South Asia and Africa, are deprived of their rights granted to them by the religion. For example, husbands having more than one wives seldom treat their wives equally, women are generally deprived of their right to property in their parents’ properties, and they are confined in four walls of their houses. These and several other practices are against Islam, against a just society, and denial of their participation in economic development of their countries. It is rightly said that in Muslim counties, if Muslim women are confined in their houses, the country wil economically lag behind, as almost halfof their work force will remains untapped. Their conditions are vhanging, but the pace of change is utterly slow. When women assert their rights, in many cases, they face divorce. The book discusses various pertinent issues with a predominant objective to grant them social and economic justice. These issues are critical in the sense thst they suffer from controversies. The book is timely and will help solve these issues, so that women could be followed in the world alike.
