These volumes are meant to honour Porf. Chenna Reddy Pedarapu, an eminent historian, academician, Dean, Academic Affairs, P.S. Telugu University and former Director, Dept. of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhra Pradesh, who needs no introduction to the world of Indian History and Archaeology. Chenna Reddy has drawn admiration from his colleagues and scholars who have contributed valuable articles in appreciation of his learned contributions. His humbleness made him so lovable and admirable. Porf. P. Chenna Reddy continues to be a beam of light to the junior scholars who hope to become specialists in History, Archaeology and Indology. No doubt he is a trend setter in the field of academic co-operation. The collection of articles received in his honour are divided into Ten Volumes on thematic specialization.

The felicitation volume is brought out in a series of 10 independent books covering a total of 360 articles. Each colume contains two sections and the first section of the every volume contains the biography sketch of Porf. P. Chenna Reddy, his achievements and his contributions to Archaeology, History and Society. The second section of each volume is subject specific. e.g. Volume-I is on Archaeology, Volume-II (2 parts) is on History, Volume-III on Epigraphy, Volume-IV on Numismatics, Volume-V on Art, Volume-VI on Architecture, Volume-VII on Buddhism and other Religions, Volume-VIII on Culture, Heritage and Literature, Volume-IX on Vijayanagara Period and Volume-X on Tourism and contains as many as 360 articles contributed by renowned scholars. The contributors stem, from various parts of the world and include historians, epigraphists, linguists, cultural anthropologists, numismatists, art and architectural historians and specialists in tourism studies.

Contents: Volume I Contains 37 articles encompassing the subject of Archaeology. The articles cover the varied aspects of the human history spanning from Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Megalithic to early historical periods in time, and stretching from West Bengal, Tamilnadu, Chattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarath to South Asia in space.

Contents: Volume II contains 37 articles on history covering the varied aspects of the human history right from the Maurya, Satavahana, up to the Saurashtra periods touching the historical aspects of Hero Stones, Water Supply, Geography, Nayankara System, Devadasi System, Nyaya School, Medical Education, Tipu Sultan, Chola Tacation Wood’s Despatch, Rani Chinna Devi, Periyar Justice Party, Ronald Ross etc in a very detailed account.

Contents: Volume III is on Epigraphy in which there are 21 articles covering inscriptions of the Chalukyas, Rashtrakuta, Chalukya-Chola and Kalyani Chalukya period and composers of inscriptions of medieval Andhradesa.

Contents: Volume IV is on Numismatics containing 17 articles. These articles shed light on the coinage in a Pan-Indian context right from the punch-marked coins (PMC), of the Satavahanas, Romans, Kshatrapas, Pandyas to the Mughal Sultanates and also the symbols on the coins which open new vistas in numismatics.

Contents: Volume V is on Art in which there are 52 articles throwing light on art, art history and styles right from the prehistoric to the modern period. Theyinclude rock art terracotta, bronze sculpture, ragamala painting, tattoo, folk art forms, art on dress and ornaments, etc.

Contents: Volume VI that deals Architecture has 18 articles. They cover temple architecture of India, Nepal and Southeast Asia. These articles are very interesting giving details on the temple parts like Upapitha and Pillars.

Contents: Volume VII is on Buddhism and Other Religions and contains 46 articles. The first part contains a few articles on Buddhism, followed by Saivism, Jainism, Saktism and Vaishnavism. A few articles also deal with Indus and Vedic religions.

Contents: Volume VIII is on Culture, Heritage and Literature and contains 43 articles on Cultural and Literary Heritage of India. They cover social, artistic, festive, dynastic, dance, tribal, food conservation and medicinal aspects.

Contents: Volume IX is on Vijayanagara Epoch with 27 articles on the history of the Vijayanagara Empire. These articles throw light on genealogy, personalities like Krishnadevaraya, social, economic, religious and articles perspective of the Epoch. A few articles are on coinage, paintings, transportation and eating habits of the period.

Contents: Volume X is the last of the series and contains 15 articles on Tourism. The articles deal with Tourism and its various components and forms. A few articles are on the theoretical aspects like the determinants of performance of the tourism industry, circuit Tourism and heritage Tourism.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR E Siva Nagi Reddy

Born at Vanveru in Guntur District in 1955, Siva Nagi Reddy, Under went a 4 year training in Traditional Sculpture and Architecture at Tirupati. He did his M.A., in Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology from Osmania University. Awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy for his outstanding thesis on Evolution of Building Technology in Early Andhradesa (Upto the 14th century A.D.) from the Hyderabad Central University in 1995. He is associated with a good number of reputed and research organizations like the Indian History Congress, A.P. History, Academy of Art and Architecture, Archaeological Society of India, Indian Institute of Vastu etc. and has nearly 50 research articles published. Besides, he authored a book on Silpins in Early and Medieval Andhradesa’, Co-authored another book entitled Buddhist Inscriptions of Andhradesa. Eversince he joined in the Dept. of Archaeology and Museums, Govt. of A.P., as Asst. Sthapati Participated in excavations and transplantation of historical Temples from Srisailam Project area. He is currently involved in the Kakatiya Heritage project taken up by the Dept. of Archaeology. He was honoured and awarded the title Vastu Silpa Vachaspati at the 2nd International Seminar on Mayonic Science and Technology organized by Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati at Trivandrum in January, 1997.
