ABOUT THE AUTHOR Madhu Limaye
Madhu Limaye (born 1 May 1922) was drawn into the national movement at an early stage. Socialist ideas held great fascination for him. Membership of the Congress Socialist Party came natural to him as he considered it to be the most determined vanguard of the anti-imperialist struggle and a party committed to basic social change. the struggle against foreign rule landed him in prison many times. His first imprisonment came in 1940-41 (When he was only a little over 18). He participated in the Quit India under ground movement and was detained under DIR till the end of the War. Limaye was associated with the Goa Liberation Movement and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by a Portuguese Military Tribunal. He was repeatedly imprisoned in the course of the struggle of the oppressed people for justice. He had to spend nineteen months in detention during the Emergency. India's leading intellectual, Limaye was elected member of the Lok Sabha four times, and has been an outstanding parliamentarian.
