ABOUT THE AUTHOR Niru Hazarika

Niru Hazarika is a Professor of Political Science, Gauhati University, Assam and presently is heading the Department. She has had a brilliant academic career securing Ist class throughout her Ph.D. degree at the initial stage of her service career as a teacher in Gauhati University. Professor Hazarika is the first lady of Northeast India to be awarded the degree of D.Litt. She has formerly a member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and Dean, Faculty of Arts, Gauhati University. Professor Hazarika has appreciable contributions in the field of social science research and under her guidance so far 30 research students have been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. She has authored and co-authored several books etc., apart from articles in national and international journals. She has visited countries like the U.K., Holland, France and Germany on her academic pursuits.
