Democratic Decentralization and Empowerment of Women

It is significant to introduce the book in the concept of women empowerment. Since women constitute a large segment of the society, participation of women in policy making and execution is an important component of the entire development process and empowerment of people. Panchayat Raj Institutions are the foundations of democratic decentralized governance in general and women empowerment in particular. This study is based on Murshidabad district in West Bengal where women empowerment is still a far cry. Murshidabad district having low rate of literary, low rate of employment and socio-cultural constraints does not provide any bright idea of women empowerment. Though women have entered in political arena, they still remain invisible in decision making. This book seeks to find out the level of empowerment particularly in the context of political empowerment in Murshidabad district. This book seeks to unfold the constraints of women empowerment with their expectation that the book could offer fresh insights and valuable inputs to the public policy makers in their future policy making. This book covers an area of Contemporary relevance as it deals with a very important aspect of the empowerment of women. Needless to mention, the discourse on women, empowerment forms the core area of present studies be it is political science, Economics or History.
