The book consists of Eight Chapters. Chapter 1 and 2 deal with Analysis and Design of Load Bearing Bricks Masonary Wall and Pillars and their foundations. Chapter 3 deals with Stability and design of Brick Masonry Retaining Walls subjected to different types of earth pressure including surcharge. Chapter 4 deals with requirements of Structural Timber and the Permissible Stresses in different grades of timber. Chapter 5 and 6 deals with analysis and design of Timber beams including Fletched Timber beam. Chapter 7 deals with Analysis and Design of Timber Columns and chapter 8 deals with design of Timber Roof truss including reversal of stresses. All chapters have been provided solved examples covering all types of problems in a graded manner. Masonry design is based on IS: 1905-1987 (reaffirmed 2002) and Timber Structure design is based on IS: 883-1984 (reaffirmed 2005).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Harbhajan Singh

Col. (Retd) Prof Harbhajan Singh has over 34 years of experience out of which he has spent 15 years in execution of Civil Engineering works in M.E.S., Border Roads and Army units; 9 years as Structure design consultant of Civil Engineering Projects; and 10 years in teaching Structure Systems and deign to students of Architecture and Planning. He has done M. Tech (Structures) from I.I.T. Bombay with distinction and by virtue of Professional Training and experience he has been permitted by Institution of Engineers (India) to use the tile of “Chartered Engineer (India)”. He is working as Prof of Structures in Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture. He is a registered and Approved Structural designer with Chandigarh Administration. He is also teaching Structure subjects in Chandigarh College of Architecture as a visiting faculty.
