Examined in this extensively researched work are the pattern of growth of the economy in post-independence India, and of the agencies that communicate information and values, as well as the symbiotic relationship between the two. The study was facilitated by the award of a two-year senior fellowship by the Indian Council of Social Science Research to the author.
