Balanced development of regions is one important objective of our national planning. Reduction of regional developmental disparities both at inter-state and intra-state level is very important for a pluralistic and multiethnic society like India. The benefits of economic development should go more and more to the relatively economically poorer regions of the country and there should be a progressive reduction of the concentration of income, wealth and economic power. Reduction of regional disparities is a prime objective running through all the five year plans in India. In this book the authors have studied the regional disparities at district level of the state of Assam which is one of the backward states in India. The prime objective of this book is to focus the relatively more backward districts of this backward state so that the planning authorities as well as the state and central government may adopt appropriate measures for developing the relatively backward districts in particular and the state of Assam in general.
