Disruptiveness involves taking a radically different approach compared to the traditional approach employed by companies or firms, to gain a competitive advantage. Disruptive Technologies (DTs) are those that render the established technologies obsolete, and, therefore, destroy the value of the investments that incumbents have made in those technologies. Disruptive innovation is an innovation that is highly discontinuous or revolutionary in nature rather than evolutionary or incremental. Disruptive innovations occur in small, new markets in which large companies are not interested. Disruption can be in many forms: An innovative product, distribution and business model using different disruptive technologies. Some of the disruptive products include, iPod, VoIP Network, open source software, nanotechnology, micro machines, E-learning, nano-solar products, digital technology, millimeter scale robots and so on. Disruptive Technologies have many roles to play in future and are likely to change the world. But many of them are still in research phase and may not survive. But those, which survive, are likely to ultimately displace many older technologies and bring new values to different markets. This book deals with the concepts of DTs, and provides a glimpse of experiences of DTs in various fields like, electronics, wireless telecommunications, education, biology, defense and so on. The book will be useful to corporate managers, researchers, professionals, business school teachers, students and many others in the relevant fields.
