Today our country is the threshold of momentous changes in education. We are for functional education as opposed to the old system which was thought as dysfunctional because the system of education we had inherited had hardly any relevance to the needs of life situations. During the course of time, the education system continued to drift away from realities of life. At the same time, there was a growing realization of the deficiencies of the system. No society specially one like ours which is passing through an extremely crucial but equally important phase of economic development can permit such a system to continue. Too many pupils are dropping out of the present system. Many factors are responsible for this phenomenon. Most important among them are socio-economic and psycho-educational factors which interact on the poor pupil and pushes him out, therefore, the term push out implies better the cause of school dropout as the combined interacting factors of socio-economic and psycho-educational systems. The present publication seems to be unique in itself as it addresses the core-rot of the social system. Moreover, it attempts to seek the important clues of dropout from the individual personality and the consequential impact of the socialization process on the young human organism. With the help of ‘Dropout Scale’, a teacher can hnow very easily identify the pupils showing strong symptoms of dropping out within the four walls of the educational institution by bringing preventive measures contained in the lasts chapter of the book into practice.
