Some times back, the concept of e-government was typically seen as a new process with unlimited potential in the rapidly expanding global environment. Electronic Governance involves new styles of leadership, new ways of debating and deciding policy and investment, new ways of accessing education, new ways of listening to the citizens and new ways of organizing and delivering information and services. The progress of E-Governance in India has been slow and uneven. While intentions have been expressed and hypes have been created, often prematurely, the ground result is not commensurate with the expectations. The book presents a systematic description of the initiatives taken towards E-Governance by the Central Government and some selected state governments and analyses the factors that hamper its growth in India. The scenarios in some ICT-advanced countries in the world have also been presented.
