The book “Ecological Distortions of Kashmir Himalayas†is a rare place of attempt on the subject. The book contains 22 chapters written elaborately by the author. Each chapter of this book has been decorated with the rich experience of the author. The present work has been written in a very simple language and relevant examples have been quoted to illustrate the facts wherever possible and feasible. Due to alarming rate of population growth, there is a lot of pressure on natural resources to meet out the ever growing day-to-day demands. This results in the disturbed ecology of the Kashmir Himalaya. A sincere effort has been made to focus on the various problems which are attributed due to the ecological aspects. This region of Himalaya possesses varied types of climates. It has been debated several times that man is the great destructor of nature. Through different chapters of this book, the same has been found true. All this leads to the distorted conditions which is of great concern to every right thinking person. It is hoped that the present book will region. There is an urgent need to pay full attention towards these problems which may otherwise pose serious problems. The author is confident that this book will be a boon and will prove useful to the readers and all others interested in the subject.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sewa S. Sagwal
Dr. Sewa Siingh Sagwal having done B.Sc. (Hon’s) Agriculture (Soil Science) and M.Sc. (Forestry) in 1973 and 1978 from Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar and Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur respectively, started his career as Assistant Research Officer and Associate Head of Department of Forestry of H.P. Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur (District Kangra), Himachal Pradesh. During August, 1985, he joined as Associate Professor-cum-Senior Scientist and Head of Agroforestry at S.K. University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Shalimar (Srinagar), Jammu and Kashmir State. He undertook on Advance Training for one year (August 1987 to July 1988) in ‘Forest Nursery and Tree Crops’ under the auspicious programme of USAID. He worked at University of Idaho, Moscow, U.S.A. and Canada which impart forestry education. Dr. Sagwal has published more than 170 articles and 15 books on various aspects of forestry. He has attended / participated in a number of seminars / workshops / symposia / conferences / summer institutes at National / International level. He is a member of several professional societies. He is the winner of the award (1982) of Associated Journal’s Ltd., Rafi Marg, New Delhi, outstanding Personalities Award (1998), and Great Indian Achievers Award (1999), MSPI, New Delhi. He has done his Ph.D. (Forestry) Degree from The International University of Contemporary Studies, Washington, D.C. (U.S.A.). At present, Dr. Sagwal is worwkiing at S.K. University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Srinagar (J & K State), India.
