The book studies the problems of apple farming in India, with special reference to Himachal Pradesh. It delineates the difficulties being faced by apple growers with regard to economic incentives, prices, transportation, acreage, and production. Using elaborate methodology, the author concludes that raw prices are the most crucial factor influencing the expectation behaviour of the growers. His data support his hypothesis that the farmers in hilly areas respond positively to prices in taking long-term apple planting decisions. Profitability is found to have a positive impact on the decision making behaviour of orchardists. The author concludes that the profitability of the apple industry of Himachal Pradesh is declining, a pointer to a probable crisis in the apple industry in the near future.
