The book entitled Effects of Socio-economic disadvantage on the development of childrens values and interests is a comprehensive and objective account of ground realities of socio-economic deprived and advantaged children. The book is written in an accessible style and rich in detail. The book has been divided in four chapters. The first chapter deals with the concept and theoretical explanation of six personal values namely theoretical value, economic value, aesthetic value, social value, political value and religious value. At the same time its deals with several personal interest namely mechanical, occupational, scientific, aesthetic, social, clerical and outdoor interests.
The second chapter of the book deals with the effect of socio-economic disadvantage/advantage on the development of the personal values and interest. The other areas of the study include the effect of sex difference and urban-rural inhabitation on personal values and interests.
The third chapter deals with methodology consisting of sample, research tools, procedure and data analysis on 200 advantaged and 200 disadvantaged children of both sexes.
The fourth chapter deals with the results and their interpretations with justification and rationales.
The finding play the role of guide to the teachers, parents and spectrum of scholars. The all round development of the children needs better socio-economic advantaged conditions.
