The book “Egypt and Libya: Propaganda and Persuation for survival” has been written to highlight those commonalties and the issue having common ethnic, religious and linguistic bonds which brought them in conflicting situation. Historical, political and economic aspects, besides, the role of Western Powers and particularly the US in distablising the regional balances have been discussed in this book. the book has been divided in seven chapters. The first chapter begins with detailed introduction about the subject. The study in its second chapter gives an overview on Arab unity process, failed earlier, has shown a sign of unity after the creation of Arab League. In third chapter an attempt has been made to discuss the relationship between Egypt and Libya and the issues which brought them in war like situation. Prior to the differences of opinions as to how both the countries talked about unity among the Arab Countries. Fourth chapter is a detailed description as to why Libya was isolated in North African region, Quaddafi’s assurance to Anwar al-Sadat to deliver oil to Egypt in a situation of ceasefire but his refusal to do so when ease-fire was materialized. The Libyan conspiracy against Egypt, terrorist activities and the role of the press has been discussed in this chapter. Chapter fifth focuses on the relations between Egypt and Libya in the past and emergence of a new alliance after the assassination of Egyptian President Sadat in October 1981 and the US response in chaning relations between Libya and Egypt. The sixth chapter is an analysis highlighting Lockerbie incident, the US naming Libya for explosion in Boeing 747-121, Libya” called for UN intervention, negotiations, about border between the British, Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, the unresolved border dispute leads of Gulf War, imposition of economic sanction on Iraq, Libyan vote in UN Security Council against the resolution and he demonstration staged against the US sponsored “Operation Desert Storm” by Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and Libya. The seventh and last chapter is a summary of the entire book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mahendra Pratap Rana

Dr. Mahendra Pratap Rana is presently Director – Buddha Smriti Sansthan (Delhi Office), a research institute with its headquarters in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, India. He has been a Senior Programme Officer, Indian Social Institute, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Dr. Rana was working as Research Associate, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. A Law graduate and Post-Graduate in History, Allahabad University, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His Doctoral work is on “Liberal Trends in the Nationalist Movements in Egypt and India: A Comparative Study”, Centre for West Asian & African Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Dr. Rana has got a wide experience in the area of ‘Human Rights’. During his career, he delivered a series of lectures on “Human Rights” in London, The Netherlands and Geneva. He addressed international Indigenous people’s Conference held in Panama City, panama in May 2001. Dr. Rana has been engaged to push forward Caste discrimination in India in UN agenda so that the issue of Caste discrimination should be treated at par with Racism tending to the direction of its eradication. Caste discrimination in India has been identified as a key issue by the UN after the World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) held in Durban (South Africa) between 31st August of 9th September 2001. Dr. Mahendra Pratap Rana addressed the international communities in University of south Africa in Durban during WCAR. He has been engaged with academic pursuance as well as activism too. His previous publications include “Dalit Adhikar – Manav Adhikar (in Hindi) and “Egypt and Libya: Propaganda and Persuasion for Survival”, besides, he has published articles and research papers in a number of reputed Journals. He has been regularly writing in national dallies on contemporary issues.
