This book is the outcome of papers presented and deliberated upon in the National Seminar on "Employment Perspectives in the Rural Sector" organised by the department of analytical and applied economics, Utkal University and sponsored by the Ministry of rural employment and poverty alleviation, Government of India, held during January 30-31, 1996. The book has three sections dealing with i. Employment prospects in agricultural sector. ii. Employment prospects in non-farm sector and iii. Financial institution in creating-self employment in rual sector. The book is expected to be a great use not only to academicians and researchers but also to policy makers and administrators in their endeavour to fight unemployment.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Bedabati Mohanty

Dr. (Mrs.) Bedabati Mohanty has worked in different government colleges of Orissa and at Utkal University as Professor of Economics. After retirement from service in 2000, she is actively involved in different Research Projects and is associated with several NGOs. Currently she is working in a Project on tribal women in Orissa supported by ICSSR. She has a number of articles published in different journals and has authored the book Economics of Small Scale Industries’ and edited the books ‘Development of Women: Present Status and Future Strategy’ and ‘Employment Perspective in Rural India’.
