Gender inequality is now receiving greater attention. Women and children constitute nearly 67% of the Country’s total population. Women, better known as half of the humanity, have long been neglected in their role as beneficiaries in the process of development. Though they contribute 2/3rd of the world’s work hours, they earn only 1/3rd of the total income and owns less than 1/10th of the World’s resources. The Governments are keen to ensure that women are empowered both economically and socially and they become equal partners in national development along with men. This book on empowerment of Women will be useful to the policy makers, academicians, researchers and activists in designing the policy for the betterment of Women in India.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR B. Sambasiva Rao
Dr. B. Sambasiva Rao was born in 1956. He got his M.A. degrees in Economics and Rural Development and Ph.D. Degrees in applied Economics from Andhra University. He has more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. He published more than 40 articles in National Journals, besides presented more than 30 papers in National/International conferences/workshops. He published four books and actively participated in the micro-level planning programme of the government of Andhra Pradesh. At present, he is working as Associate professor in the department of Economics of Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Dr. (Smt.) Y. Indira Kumari got her M.A. Degree in Applied Economics from Andhra University and Ph.D. Degree in Economics from Acharya Nagarjuna University. She has more than 30 years of teaching experience and published good number of articles in National Journals. Besides, she has attended more than 15 National Conferences/Seminars/Workshops. At present, she is heading the Department of Economics, Maris Stella College (Autonomous), Vijayawada.
