The Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Environment, is an pioneering effort to keep pace with continuing rapid developments and expanding vocabularies in all areas of environment. Organised in four volumes this work covers terms on various aspects of environment such as air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, environment management, ecology, wastes, forestry and environment, plants and pollution, energy, wild life etc. The entries have been written in a clear and explanatory style to provide both straight forward definitions and invaluable background information. This approach, combined with an extensive, cross-referencing system, enables the reader to locate the entries into a broader scientific context. Of late the environmental movement itself has changed in the light of steps taken to curb the menance of environment by different governments, concerned agencies and industries. Some environmentalists have seen nuclear power as a major issue over which they must unite. An attempt has been made to include more entries relating to nuclear power. Ecology is related to environmental science and is still a new discipline. Terms relating to ecology has been included. The earth sciences too have changed over the last few years mainly as a result of the examination of cores taken from the deep ocean floor. An attempt has been made to include changes to take account of recent findings. The dictionary will be of value to students, scientists and engineers working on pollution problems.
