A Computer usage can certainly improve the effectiveness of managerial planning. But before leaving the subject of planning with computers, it should be emphasized that computers do not “make decisionsâ€. Rather, they follow program decisions made earlier by managers and programmers. Although experiments are being conducted by extremely able researchers attempting to improve the machines’ ability to solve ill-structured problems, it is man who defines problems, selects strategies to follow, and formulates hypotheses and hunches. Much of planning is judgmental or heuristic in nature, and man is far superior to machine in the heuristic area of intellectual work.
