Etymologically, fault-finding; discerning; judging etc. is known as criticism. A critic is one who passes judgement, and in the field of literature a writer expert in judging works of literature and art etc., is called literary critic. All the genres of literature come under purview of critics. In fact, literary criticism has probably existed for as long as literature.
