The endemic plants are very important from conservation point of view because if they will be lost from Nepal they will be lost from the world. Therefore the Department took initiative to find out their exact status in Nepal. The endemic species are invaluable assets of the country and the region as well. The knowledge of their status will find application for monitoring and identification of those species requiring urgent conservation measures and those that offer greatest potential for scientific use.
In the annual programme of the fiscal years 2064/65 (2007/08) and 2065/66 (2008/09) the Department carried out the study on recent status of the endemic flowering plants of Nepal and planned to publish them in species level in three parts. The first part The Endemic Flowering Plants of Nepal Part I with 98 species belonging to 18 families from Acanthaceae to Euphorbiaceae was published in 2009. The present book is the second part of the series. In this book 100 species belonging to 15 families from Gentianaceae to Primulaceae are included.
