The book aims to bring together the dimensions of conceptual as well as empirical evidences of gender development in India. The theoretical framework of the book addresses the pertinent issues viz., women as partner in technology dissemination, concept of gender, initiatives for women empowerment, constraints in implementing the women development related policies and actions, significance of gender in agriculture and rural development, innovative initiatives for gender development and redefinition of research and extension endeavour with gender perspective.
On empirical dimension, the book contains the experiences and outcome of farm based research works carried out in dairying, potato production and pulses production under hills and plain agro-eco situations. The major subheads covered include participation of male and female farmers in production, protection and post harvest handling and marketing related activities of above enterprises, the decision making pattern and time spent by them, their perception, felt needs, knowledge level and perceived constraints related to above commodities. The objective identification of various socio-psychological and other factors was also done especially for the dairy operating farm women.
Besides, the book also contains how the well designed and need based training interventions as per the suitability of farm women in phase-wise manner may have significant impact on their behavioural dimensions. Based on the experiences of the studies, some empirical models have been emanated.
