Offshoring of Engineering Services Outsourcing (ESO) has seen rapid growth in the last five years even as it began around ten years ago. One of the reasons for the outsourcing of engineering services has been the heavy expenditure on R&D by developed countries. However, the manpower involved in doing R&D has not increased in those countries. In addition, customers are demanding new products very fast. Some of the products manufactured by developed countries are exported to developing countries. But these products have to be customized to suit each country. Hence, many global companies would like to outsource their engineering services to developing countries. Some of the developing countries, especially China and India, have engineers with the necessary domain knowledge and expertise. Hence, R&D centers have been established in these countries. In future, more R&D centers and design centers are expected to be established in these two countries. The current outsourced (offshore) engineering services are valued at US$15 billion. It is expected that by 2020 the value will reach US$250 billion. Against this background, this book explores various aspects of offshore engineering services. It introduces the reader to the concept of engineering services outsourcing, the issues and trends and experiences of various companies. The book will be useful to students, engineers, design houses, IT companies, automotive and aerospace companies.
