With the increasing population and industrialization, the world is witnessing tremendous pressure on its natural resources. Protection and preservation of the environment has therefore become a prerequisite and integral part of the development process at local, national and global level. All over the world, environmental movements (also termed as new movements) are spreading their wings and rewriting the social and economic history. In India too, people in different parts of the country are organizing themselves into pressure groups and articulating their demands for just and equitable development without undermining their natural support systems. The current volume is aimed at disseminating knowledge and information on some critical issues on the theme of environmental movements, their strategies and practices.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.B. Patil
Dr. R.B. Patil (b. 1954) is presently Reader in the Department of Sociology, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. His area of specialization is Industrial Sociology. He is the life member of Marathi Samajashastra Parishad, Indian Sociological Society and Research Committee 10 of International Sociological Association. At present, he is the Secretary of Marathi Samajashastra Parishad. He has presented papers in the state, national, international seminars/conferences and published papers in the journals and Books.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.N. Pawar
Prof. S.N. Pawar (b. 1942) is presently Professor and Head, Department of Sociology, and member of the Executive Council, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. His area of specialization is Rural Sociology. As a Principal Investigator, he has completed a research project. Prof. S.N. Pawar is the life member of Marathi Samajashastra Parishad and Indian Sociological Society. At present, he is the President of Marathi Samajashastra Parishad. He is the editor of Journal of Shivaji University, Kolhapur (Humanities) since 1990. He has presented research papers in the state, national and international seminars/conferences and published papers in the Journals.
