Environment is meant to serve and support human society, by tproviding raw materials and inputs. Unbalanced approaches of the development, negligence of environment and natural resources have distorted the picture of production as pollution. The development strategy has to reckon the inextricable link between the poverty reduction and the environmental aspects. The tenth plan, therefore, marks a paradigm shift as it visualizes that economic growth along is not the objective of national planning. All aspects underscore the increasing thrust for linking the environmental concerns with the developmental strategy to attain three key objective, namely: (a) Enhance people’s livelihood, (b) Reduce people’s volunerability, and (c) Improve people’s health and living environ.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.B. Verma
Dr. S.B. Verma got through Master degree in Commerce and Economics as well as Bachelor degree in Law from Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. He was awarded Ph.D. degree from Patna University, Patna and also D.Litt degree from Allahabad Univesity, Allahabad. He had been Reader at Nagaland Central University, Kohima, and Lecturer at HNB University, Garhwal. He is faculty member of Commerce, SNS College, Muzaffarpur, Bihar University, Muzaffarpur; Guest faculty at many universities and a National Fellow. He is an Academic Counselor for many educational institutions. Dr. Verma is a member of All India Commerce Association, and All India Accounting Association. He was granted a major project of UGC. He has extensively published research papers in leading academic journals and contributed a number of papers in National and International Seminar-cum-Conferences. He is a renowned author and editor of more than three dozen outstanding research books. He has guided many Ph.D. students. Dr. Verma is a distinguished personality in commerce and management. He has throughout a meritorious career.

Dr. Shiva Kumar Singh obtained M.Com. (Gold Medallist) and Ph.D. degrees from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He is Reader-cum-Co-ordinator, Institute of Commerce and Management, Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He has edited (auathored) several research books with Dr. Sawalia Bihari Verma. He has presented several articles in International and National Conferences-cum-Seminars.
