From the content and sectional division of the articles incorporated in this volume, one could easily see the huge canvass of writings, ranging from the ethnic conflict in Central Asia, to erstwhile Soviet Union, Pakistan to relevance for need for inter-religious dialogue, to problems of minorities, contribution of Sufi and Bhakti movement to Indian medieval society, significance of Gandhi, Maulana Azad and Moulana Hussain Ahmad Madani and other prominent Muslim religious leaders for promoting the communal harmony, appraisal of secularism in Indian context to the riddle of Kashmiri identity vis-a-vis the policies of the central and state government, to language controversy, especially with regard to place of Urdu and its contribution in emerging literary and cultural traditions in this country. Of course, the major contribution of Asghar Ali is in the area of investigating communal riots in this country and the relevance of Quranic teachings as enunciated by the prophet, Mohamed Paigamber. Most of us who are familiar with major contribution of Asghar Ali, are not aware of the vast range of his writings and their significance.
