The book ‘Essays on Development of Nepal’ makes an endeavor to probe into the intricacies of development of Nepal. Development is a phenomenon which cannot be dealt with in isolation. There are hosts of factors (both internal and external) which tends to direct its course. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Diwaker Chand

The author Diwaker Chand, resorted to writing from very early days. His first book ‘New Dimensions of Economic Development ws published as early as in 1975. His writings are usually highly analytical, transparent and critical. His earlier Books are devoted to national development issues with particular focus upon macro economics, rural economics, Foreign Trade etc. After he stepped into the social development sector in the early 80s as the Member of Social Services National Co-ordinatioin Council (SSNCC), he was vested with the responsibility to steer the NGO sector as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Since then he has diverted his entire energy into the preservation, protection and promotion of civil society without looking back. He has contributed numbers research documents, articles, resource papers at National and International level. Some of his significant research publications are ‘Non-Profit Sector in Nepal ‘2001 (for Charities Aid Foundation, UK and commissioned by IIDS), and ‘NGO Strategy and Development of a comprehensive Database of Development Focused NGOs’ 2002 (for Asian Development Bank). He is personally involved in the operatioin of NGO and have contributed extensively in support of NGO issues and activities. He has prepared significant documents for the National Planning Commissioin HMG such as ‘Action Plan for enhancing the Role of NGO and Civil Society in the National Development in the context of the 10th Plan’ June, 2002 and ‘Civil Society and NGO Perspecteive in the context of NDF’, Jan., 2002. Mr. Chand had also been nominated as a member of the task force to draft the NGO-Development Acat, 2001. He has also been nominated as the Member of the National Development Council by the government of Nepal. Development therefore is not an unfamiliar issue to Mr. Chand who has been in incessantly contributing his energy in this sector for almost three decades.
