Jammu and Kashmir is ethnically plural because it posses because it posses diversity of cultures within the same political unit consisting of a multiplicity of ethnic groups based on religion, territory, language, tribe or caste. It is possible that the traits that are used to define an ethnic group such as region, religion, language and social status may be overlapping of such traits leading to formation of small as well as large ethnic groups.
