The subject matter has been illustrated with the help of 17 tables, 8 figures and 235 photographs. This should enable easy identification of the spp one may collect in this part of the Himalaya. More over, data on nutritional value, chemical constituents and total importance values (TIV) of ethnobotanically important species enhance the value of the treatise significantly. With all these details, this treatise would serve as a ready-recknor and of great use for the students and scholars of economic botany and ethnobotany, practitioners of alternative medicines, students of Ayurveda, pharmacologists, phytochemists, policy makers, conservation organizations, and would encourage others to take up similar ventures in other parts of the country.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR J.C. Rana

Dr. J.C. Rana is a senior scientist at NBPGR (National Beaureu pf Plant Genetic Resources), Phagli, Shimla (H.P.) He has to his credit over 50 research papers in national and international journals of repute. His contribution in the collection of germplasm from Himachal Himalaya are immense and widely appreciated.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S K Sood

Dr. S.K. Sood is Professor of Botany at the Department of Biosciences, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He obtained his M.Sc. (1974) and M. Phil. (1976) from Himachal Pradesh University and Ph.D. (1981) from Nagarjuna University, Guntur, specializing in Plant Systematics and Embryology. For his post-doctoral, he underwent specialized training in Ethnobotany. He has had a brilliant academic career followed by over 25 years of teaching and conducting research in Botany at Postgraduate as well as research levels. Dr. Sood has guided about 10 M. Phil and 12 Ph.D. students and published numerous research papers in various national and international journals. He has attended and participated in many seminars, workshops and conferences. He is also associated with many educational and research bodies in India and abroad. A prolific writer, his book Ethnobotany of Cold Desert Tribes of Lahoul-Spiti (N.W. Himalaya): Deep Publications, New Delhi, 2001, was widely acclaimed. His current major interests are in the theory and practice of systematics, flora of North-West Himalaya, ethnic tribes and conservation research.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Suresh Kumar

Suresh Kumar teaching in Department of Botany, M.M.H. College, Ghaziabad. He has been teaching graduate and post-graduate classes since 1997. Recently he has submit the thesis for Ph. D. degree. He has been presented several papers in different National and International Conferences. He is the members of many societies and associations number of abstracts, research papers and books has been to his credit.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Susheel Kumar Bassi

Dr. Susheel Kumar Bassi obtained his Ph.D (2007) from Shimla, specialising in Ethnobotany. At present, he is working as a lecturer.
