Euthanasia-the action of inducing a gentle, painless and easy death, which is also popularly called "mercy killing", is not a matter of killing anyone. It has become an ethical problem, as to what we should do in order to end the intense suffering of the terminally ill and incurable patients. How can one make ‘dying’ more gentle, humane, less violent and catastrophic, are the main concerns of the present day society. The society is seriously thinking how to avoid ‘Cacothanasia’, which means an ugly and violent death.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Manasvini Madhubhashini Yogi
Dr. Manasvini Madhubhashini Yogi (Bhalla) is a senior reader in the department College for Women, University of Delhi and has been teaching for last 30 years. A product of Indraprashta college, DU, she was awarded the Indian Philosophical Congress Gold Medal for Standing 1st Class 1st in M.A., in 1978. She is the only alumna of the college, who was awarded the ‘All Round Best Student’ prize twice in her student life-1976 and 1978. She has been actively contributing in the academic, cultural and administrative life of her institution and has contributed many papers at National and International Conferences on varied topics.
