Expanding Horizons of Public Administration

The horizons of public administration, one of the younger social science disciplines in the university campuses of India, began to widen and deepen rapidly after the state acquired a greater stake in the Indian economy with the inauguration of the planning era in 1950. The ensuring years saw a quantum jump in the stature and structures of public administration as an activity and this duly cast it shadows on the study and research in the discipline with a steady spurt in the number of university faculties of public administration. The ‘mixed economy’ of India provided a rich opportunity to the teachers of public administration to analyze the variety of administrative changes and placing India in the world map of administrative studies. This volume encapsulates the wisdom of such eminent teachers plus lectures by distinguished practitioners and provides an insightful overview of the academic responses to the expansion of the horizons of public administration.
