The present book on "Experimental Strength of Materials' has been written with a specific purpose of filling the void that exists in respect of laboratory work performed by students during preparation of degree.
The present text makes an attempt in providing back ground material for several experiments and also deals with the theories connected with different aspects of materials behaviour and testing. Such widely accepted tests for characterizing materials as tension, compression, torsion, impact, hardnes, fatigue and creep have been included. It is expected that students will find the next highly helpful both during experimenting in laboratories and preparing or examination. An introduction on strength of materials has also been included for the specific purpose of correlating the failure behavior of material with applied load and stresses.
Since most of the time allotted for laboratory work is consumed in doing experiments and teacher has to spend his time mostly in correcting the journals of the students, little time is left for student-teacher interaction. In the absense of any text to be consulted, the students often face the examiner during viva-choice under tension. This book partially provides a subsitute for student-teacher interaction. Each chapter is followed by a set of questions which wil come in handy for students to familiarize with types of questions which can be asked during viva-voice.
