The Advent of Green Revolution in India in the mid sixties necessitated the publication of journals, news papers, periodicals, etc. alongwith electronic media in regional languages for speedy dissemination of farm technology to the forming community extension functionaries and others engaged in agricultural development. All these media have played their valuable role in promoting scientific agriculture and rural development. Developmental schemes fail to a certain extent due to the dearth of peoples participation and co-operation. Herein lies the need for effective communication between policy makers and the stakeholders. The mass media like newspaper, magazines, radio, TV, film and internet can play a vital role in accelerating national development concomitant with economic prosperity of the country. The Major objectives of journalism is to communicate the feasible farm technologies in such a manner to attract the attention of farmers, help them to understand and remember, the message and ultimately facilitate them to take appropriate decision. With the rapid strides in agricultural sciences virtually there is an information explosion which is a challenge for IT tools to push the technology process. Knowledge expansion, information technology, and information dissemination are the important dimensions of development system. The editors have made valuable efforts to bring together varied aspects of farm journalism and media management under one umbrella. ABOUT THE AUTHOR C. Bhaskaran
Dr. C. Bhaskaran (b-1953) completed his under graduation and Post graduate studies at TNAU and UAS, respectively. He joined life science of the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) in 1979 and has been working in various capacities including the head of the Department of Agricultural of the KAU. An Agricultural Extension professional with diverse exposures as an academician, scientist and as a teacher’s representative in the KAU bodies, dr. C. Bhaskaran has to his credit over one hundred publications including half a dozen books. Dr. C. Bhaskaran is currently Professor (Extension) in College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR N. Kishore Kumar
Dr. N. Kishore Kumar graduated from TNAU with Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension Education in 1992 from IARI New Delhi. He did his MBA and PGHRM from IGNOU. He has also acquired PGJMC from IGNOU. Dr. Kishore Kumar was acclaimed by ISEE as one of the outstanding Young scientists in the Year 2002. At present he is working as Associate professor of Agricultural Extension in kerala Agricultural University, college of Agriculture, vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram. He has guided four PG students MBA programmes. He is a consultant from MGP of Government of Kerala, and also national facilitator for ATMA of MANAGE, Hyderabad. He has varied educational qualification, Human resource development, Diploma in service delivery from INTAN Malaysia ASCI, Hyderabad. He is also counselor for IGNOU MBA programme.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR R. Prakash
Dr. R. Prakash graduated from kerala Agricultural University and took his Ph.D. in 1990. He also has MBA, PGHRM and Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism. He is currently Professor and Project Coordinator (Agricultural Extension and Development Studies) and is teaches at College of Agriculture, Vellayani. He has published six books and a large number of technical articles in major magazines and dailies.
