This book Fauna of India: Acanthocephala by the present author is an attempt to put together all the information available in literature of Acanthocephala. Out of 1250 species known from all over the world, this work deals with 348 species of these parasites occurring in the Indian subcontinent. These 348 species belonging to 65 genera, 18 families, 8 orders, 3 classes of which description and figures are provided for 339 species. The present volume will certainly help the future workers in this field.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR K. Vanamala Naidu
Sri K. Vanamala Naidu was born on 5th June 1923 at Bellary, Karnataka. He had schooling at Ballary and Adoni, under graduation at Anantpur and graduation and post graduation in Presidency College, Chennai. HE started teaching in Presidency College, Chennai and taught in two other degree Colleges in old Madras Presidency and nine Government Degree Colleges in Andhra Pradesh. In 1952 started doing research in his spare time as hobby on fresh water Oilgochaeta from Bugga stream in Cuddapah town. He published over 30 research papers in Indian and foreign journals on fresh water oligochaetes of India, Singapore and Australia, protozoan parasites of Oligochaeta, Ciliophora, Euglenoidina, Thecamoebae, Gastrotricha, Rotifera and Nematoda. He helped in identifying oligochate material sent to him by Indian and foreign researchers and institutions. When denied the laboratory facilities and use of binocular research microscope outside the college hours and holidays by the college authorities, from 1959-1960, he turned his attention to the flora of Cuddapah and Chittoor districts and published 6 papers on flora of Cuddapah and Tirupati hills. He is currently working on the manuscript on the Acanthocephala of Indian subcontinent and in collaboration with Dr. S.Z. Siddiqi on the manuscript of Rotifera of Indian subcontinent.
