The issue of women emancipation is of vital significance in the contemporary discourses on development. Though the concepts of emancipation and empowerment differ substantively, this book brings out close connectivity between the two concepts and empirically upholds that the two concepts constitute each other. In northeast India, the role of women is quite high in the socio-economic spheres whereas their social status is low. This dilemma is significant in this region. It creates a contradiction between self-identity of the women community and collective identity of them in the larger society. This book gives detailed information about the current trends and major issues of women emancipation and empowerment in the northeastern region of India. The approach of the book is empirical with current database. The articles in this book reflect the views of the scholars of the region. The book not only upholds the micro level issues pertaining to women community of this region but also points at different trajectories for their social and economic well being. This book is an important addition to the literature on women studies in this region and will be of high use to the academic community, social activists, women agencies, policy makers and to development administrators.
