Much that is new and exciting has developed in the field of fluidization since the publication of this book’s first edition-new insights, new understandings, and new predictive methods. In particular, the field is seeing systematic studies of the freeboard region above the dense bed, of high-velocity fine-particle fluidization, and of large-particle system. As a result, today the term fluidization tasks on broader meaning, and experts are developing new, predictive methods to cover this wider range of gas-solid contacting. Fluidization Engineering, Second Edition, Expands its original scope to encompass these, new areas and introduces reactor models specifically for these contacting regimes. Completely revised and updated, it is essentially a new book. its aim is to distill from the thousands of studies those particular developments that are pertinent for the engineer concerned with predictive methods, for the designer, and for the user and potential user of fluidized beds.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Daizo Kunii
Daizo Kunii is an industrial consultant specializing in heat transfer, combustion, industrial furnaces, and fluidization, topics on which he has published eight books and over 200 scholarly papers. Dr. Kunii received his Doctorate of Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1958. Dr. Kunii has directed the development of his basic patents for four chemical processes into successful operating plants: the Kunii lime kiln, the K.K. process of the production of olefins from heavy oil the Pyrox process for the gasification of solid waste, and another gasification reactor specifically designed to get rid of plastic waste. Prior to establishing his own consulting service, Dr. Kunii was Professor and Head of Chemical Engineering at the University of Tokyo, Professor at Yokhamma National University, and , in 1983-84, President of the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan. He is now teaching at the Fukui institute of Technology.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Octave Levenspiel
Octave Levenspiel is Professor of Chemical Engineering at Oregon State University. His Primary Interests are in the design of chemical reactors. He was born in Shanghai, China, where he attended a German grade school, an English high school, and a French University. Professor Levenspiel received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Oregon State University in 1952. His pioneering book Chemical Reaction Engineering was the first in the field and has been translated into nine languages. Other influential book by Professor Levenspiel include Chemical Reactor Omnibook and Engineering Flow and Heat Exchange. He has written over 60 research papers. The Institute of Scientific Information has selected two of his writings as Citation Classics. Professor Levenspiel has lectured widely and has received extensive recognition for his professional achievements, including the American Society of Engineering Education's Lectureship award, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Wilhelm award.
