India is a land of myriad culture and people. Its culture has been nursed not only by its long history, geography and demography, but by its ancient heritage of bygone eras. Though India’s languages, religions, dance, music, architecture, etc. differ from place to place within the country but nevertheless possess commonality.
India has a rich tradition of folk-culture throwing light on the life cycle and the attitudes of the folk toward their own tradition. The study of her folk-culture is of great importance in understanding Indian society and culture.
