With globalization the trend of people going from one place to another has intensified. In this context, foreign migration for employment is increasing day by day in Nepal as well. In fact foreign employment has become a major area in strengthening the country’s economy. Along with men, foreign employment has also started attracting an increasing number of women. But, women have also had to face various forms of discrimination and violence due to lack of effective mechanisms for foreign employment. After the reinstatement of democracy in Nepal and the fourth world women’s conference in 1995 there have been many attempts for women’s empowerment in Nepal. However the same is not true in the case of women wanting to go for foreign employment. In this context, UNIFEM helped to draw the concerned attention by initiating various programs for women’s safe migration to other countries and their empowerment in Nepal. Acknowledging the role of media UNIFEM forged a partnership with Sancharika Samuha to conduct a media campaign for fostering a positive environment for encouraging and empowering women workers going for foreign employment.
