Forests and Forestry

The Sixth Edition of Forests and Forestry continues to stress the importance of balancing the needs of traditional forestry with the needs of a changing world. It consistently emphasizes the necessity of increasing public awareness and public involvement in the decision making process while maintaining a strong forest products economy. Forests and Forestry is cotnemporary and forward looking. First, we set the stage for the student by defining forestry, tracing its evolution, and identifying the many beneficial qualities of trees and forests. Then, we present the science of forestry. The text is based on research-and-development work. This book reflects forestry in a society concerned about our ecosystem and its inhabitants, keeping in mind that trees have influenced the progress and welfare of humans in every land throughout the ages. We have maintained the improvements and enhancements introduced in the Fifth Edition. These include familiar features such as the list of learning objectives and the list of key terms at the beginning of each chapter. We have extensively reviewed all the chapters and then updated them with the latest information available. New to this edition is a summary at the end of each chapters. Called main Ideas, this section reinforces topics, terms, and objectives of the chapter.
