Providing the geo-physical set-up of Rajputana, it describes in detail the art and architecture of the forts and palaces of Rajasthan which represent the Mughal-Rajput architecture, taking into account the prominent features like domes, arches, minarets, perforated balconies, latticed windows, carved cupola roofs, meticulously chiseled stone and marble pillars.
The important regions, of which the forts and palaces are studied here, include Marwar, Mewar, Dundhar, Mewat, Hadoti and Shekhawati. A discussion on heritage hotels in Rajasthan also makes part of the book.
