The quality movement itself being less than a decade old, the literature available based on the Indian context is scarce. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which was established in 1994 to look into the quality concerns of the Indian higher education, has been busy since its inception in absorbing, evolving and adopting the EQA mechanism and in operationalising them to the Indian context. The authors, who have been associated with this task of NAAC practically from the beginning, have published a series of articles of propagate the concept to gain acceptability. Today with enhanced acceptability of its processes and with the experience gained in assessing more than 300 institutions, there is a growing interest among the stakeholders on the EQA processes which in turn kindled the interest in knowing more about assessment and accreditation process. This book, which discusses the issue of assessment and accreditation in three leads policies, prospects and challenges, will provide the basic information on EQA process as conceptualised and practised in the Indian context and will prove to be a useful source of reference to those interested quality education.
