This collection of travelogue, waster-colour sketches and photographs by Rev. Ahmad Shah is a classic work of Tibetology. He crossed the Himalayas via Kashmir into Tibet and lived for four years among the Tibetan in close intimacy with them. He imbibed their habits, thoughts and religion and pictured all in words and albums. He traveled over a large portion of Tibet and even tried to penetrate into Lhasa. After his return from the interesting country he went to England where his manuscripts and albums were seen and appreciated by many distinguished men. The book is full of interest as representing vivid and life-like pictures of the Tibetan people, their handicrafts and belongings: the carpenter’s workshop, the blacksmith’s forge, the tillage, the marriage festivities, the funeral processions, etc. In fact, there is such profusion and detail in these pictures that nothing appears to have been left out. Those interested in the life and culture of Tibet will find the book of great academic value.
