ABOUT THE AUTHOR Nadeem Mohsin
Dr. Nadeem Mohsin was an Associate Professor of Economics at A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna before he joined as Project Director, V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Noida in 1996. His interest in the area of child labour dates back to 1987 when he participated in an international conference on child labour in Norway. Thereafter, he has been pursuing this area of research and has participated in several international conferences in USA, UK and Europe. Dr. Mohsin has written more than two dozen papers on the issue of child labour, published in reputed journals and magazines in the country. He was also commissioned by UNESCO, Paris to write a paper on Street Children in South Asia in 1992 and to prepare a paper on child labour in India for Canadian International Development Agency, New Delhi in 1996. Dr. Mohsin worked at V.V. Giri National Labour Institute till May 1998. Thereafter, he joined Prayas, an NGO working for the care, protection and rehabilitation of neglected street children in Delhi as its Executive Director, a post on which he is still continuing. The combination of research and grassroots experience has helped Dr. Johsinj in understanding the issue of child labour in its proper perspective. Dr. Mohsin has also attained expertise in the area of training pertaining to issues related to children. He also participated in a training programme on Capacity Building organised by Japan International Coordination Agency (JICA) in Hiroshima, Tokyo, Okayama and Osaka in Nov.-Dec., 1999. Dr. Mohsin is being regularly invited as resource person in various training programmes organised in the country.
