This book attempts to probe into the impact of the shift of Indian democracy from a democracy premised on socialism and state sovereignty to market economy and subordination. It interrogates the shift in democracy, the dichotomy between democracy and market economy and on the impacts of the markets on Indian democracy.
Further looking at the various responses that are emerging on the alienation of the people, it also explores the people’s movements, the emergence of extremist violence, the demands for smaller states and its meaning for Indian democracy. The alternative that is emerging from below is examined as well.
