Many researches and practitioners have taken on the arduous task of attempting to define the theoretical aura that surrounds counseling practice. The image of a theoretical aura reflects the continuum of debate about whether counseling and psychotherapy are guided by a theory, a philosophy, or a conceptual model. Caple (1985) stated that a theory is a formally organized collection of facts, definitions, constructs and testable propositions that are meaningfully related. Ginter (1988) emphatically asserted that therapy cannot exist without theory.
