The conservative approach to the study of political science with the main focus of state, government, legal institutions and structures has undergone a tremendous change. Political science has become more akin to sociology, psychology, economics, geography, history, women studies, anthropology and other social sciences. The writings of Karl Marx, Max Weber have contributed to the development of the political sociology. The inter-change and interaction between political science and sociology has resulted in the development of a new term called ‘political sociology’. Attempts have been made in this book to make a lucid presentation of very complicated aspects-political system, political development, political socialization, structural-functional approach, political modernization, evolution of political sociology, relationship between political system and other systems and many other concepts in a simple and lucid style. Besides discussing the subject in its general and wider perspective, the author have laid particular emphasis upon the Indian situations concerning these concepts. While the theoretical discussion is based upon matter drawn from standard reference books, details have been worked out with the help of research journals and data available in magazines and newspapers. This book will be of immense help to the students and teachers of sociology, political science and candidates appearing for various competitive examinations.
