Gandhi and Voluntary Organizations

During the Freedom Movement, Gandhi has established a net of voluntary organizations for all-around development of the Indian citizens so that the Indian Freedom Movement could rest on a sound footing. In the post Independent India, voluntary organizations started playing constructive and cooperative role in collaboration with the state machinery but the scenario has changed after sixties. Now growth of voluntary organizations is a matter of concern for all those who believe that voluntary organizations have a vital role to play in the reconstruction of modern India as it is not only difficult but absolutely impossible for the government machinery to function successfully without the constructive and cooperative role of the voluntary organizations. This book focuses prominently on the constructive role played by the voluntary agencies and states that it democracy has to survive, the role of voluntary organizations will have to be acknowledged both by the governmental agencies and by the various leaders and the public at large. There are innumerable books on voluntary organizations, but perhaps this is the first book on voluntary organizations as envisaged by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The role of voluntary organizations has increased by leaps and bounds with the dawn of liberalization.
